New research reveals European consumer preference for foldable smartphone screens
A recent study published on August 17, 2026, highlights a growing demand among European smartphone users for the flexibility offered by foldable devices. Data collected from consumers in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain indicates that 69% of users favor handsets that can unfold to provide a larger screen area for daily tasks.
The findings suggest that current smartphone screens are struggling to meet the multitasking needs of modern users. Approximately 85% of participants reported having to interrupt tasks on their phones to finish them on devices with larger displays. Key pain points identified include limited screen real estate, cited by 29% of respondents, and the frustration caused by switching between multiple applications or browser tabs, which affects 25% of users. These limitations frequently lead to incomplete tasks, most commonly regarding online shopping and product comparisons, which account for 26% of such instances.
The research underscores a shift in consumer behavior where the constraints of traditional small-screen devices are driving a desire for more versatile technology capable of handling complex work such as document annotation and video editing.
