Journalist Makarios Drousiotis accuses government of harassing his associates and family
Journalist and author Makarios Drousiotis recently publicly accused the Christodoulidis administration of criminalizing the publishing process and harassing his associates and family members. On August 17, 2026, Drousiotis reported that the police headquarters’ criminal investigation department (TAE) summoned the designer, the editor, and the printer of his book "Kratos Mafia" for questioning. The journalist stated that these interrogations, which occurred four years after the book's publication, are part of an investigation into an alleged personal data violation complaint filed by an intelligence service (KYP) officer.
Furthermore, Drousiotis highlighted that his 85-year-old father-in-law, who has no involvement with the publication, was also summoned for questioning. The author condemned these actions as tactics characteristic of authoritarian regimes, suggesting that the government is expanding its scrutiny beyond his journalistic work to include those involved in the technical production of his books. Separately, the police are currently awaiting legal advice from the Attorney General’s office regarding a request from the Ministry of Interior to investigate whether Drousiotis conducted an illegal crowdfunding campaign.
