Australian friends renovate one-euro home in Sicily

Four friends from Australia—Miles, Ricky, Jack, and Riley—have gained viral attention after purchasing a house for one euro in the town of Salemi, Sicily. Frustrated by the soaring real estate prices in their home country, the group decided to abandon their careers and sell their belongings to test whether the low-cost property initiative in Italy was legitimate. Their journey, which has garnered over 310,000 views on social media, involved traveling across various regions in Italy to inspect properties before settling on their Sicilian acquisition.

Upon arriving in Italy, the group rented a car and purchased a scooter to tour available properties. They noted that many of the houses offered under the one-euro scheme were in poor condition, featuring severe structural damage, missing flooring, and a lack of basic utilities such as electricity. The friends are currently performing the renovation work themselves, documenting the experience online as a challenging but rewarding project. While many such programs require buyers to commit to restoration within a set timeframe, this initiative has highlighted the growing global interest in rural Italian property revitalization as an alternative to expensive urban housing markets.
