Strovolos municipality manages impact of heavy rainfall on road construction sites
On Monday, August 17, 2026, the municipality of Strovolos experienced a sudden, heavy downpour that caused minor issues in specific areas. According to the deputy municipal secretary, Giorgos Tsiakkas, the municipality faced no significant problems, with the exception of a localized issue on Tseriou Avenue where road construction works are currently underway.
Municipal staff and a contractor’s team were deployed to the construction site on Tseriou Avenue to address water accumulation. Officials noted that the site’s downward slope allowed the water to drain naturally, preventing any flooding of buildings or damage to public infrastructure. Furthermore, locations typically prone to overflow, such as the area near Alexandroupoleos Street, remained stable as the Pediaios River did not swell significantly during the event.
The municipal teams had conducted preventative inspections of drainage grates prior to the rainfall. Officials confirmed that the situation remained under control, and no further interventions or emergency operations were required to manage the impact of the storm.
