Cyprus Civil Defense maintains high readiness for wildfire response

The Cyprus Civil Defense Force has confirmed it is on high alert and maintaining daily, continuous patrols across all districts to assist in wildfire suppression efforts. According to spokesperson Panagiotis Liasidis, the agency maintains constant communication with the General Coordinator of Major Fires, Chief Fire Officer Nikos Longinos, and other relevant emergency services to ensure a coordinated response to the ongoing threat of summer wildfires.

The agency recently demonstrated its operational capabilities during two major incidents. On Saturday, August 15, a fire broke out in the Lysos community of the Paphos district, where the Civil Defense mobilized five vehicles and ten personnel, led by the deputy commander, Colonel Theodoros Lemoniatis. The force also participated in response efforts for a fire that occurred in Pissouri on Sunday, August 16. These actions underscore the agency’s commitment to providing support alongside fire services to protect local communities. Currently, the Civil Defense remains in a state of operational readiness, prepared to deploy resources immediately should new fire outbreaks occur across the island.
