Nicosia Municipality launches competition to renovate municipal gardens

The Nicosia Municipality has officially launched an international architectural competition focused on the regeneration and modernization of the city's municipal gardens. This initiative represents the first formal step toward preserving and upgrading the capital's largest green space, which is regarded as a significant architectural and historical landmark.

The project has been budgeted at €4.1 million, excluding VAT. The scope of the work includes the maintenance, restoration, and functional enhancement of the park to improve facilities for residents and visitors. Mayor Charalambos Prountzos emphasized that the protection of the gardens requires a scientific and sensitive approach to balance modern needs with historical character. This project is part of a broader series of public works currently being planned for the area to revitalize the urban environment.

Interested architectural firms are invited to submit their proposals for the transformation project until the deadline of November 10, 2026. The selection process will determine the professional team responsible for implementing the upgrades, which aim to foster a sustainable and upgraded public space in the heart of the city.
