Cyprus experiences heatwave and yellow warning conditions
Cyprus has been experiencing high temperatures and seasonal low-pressure conditions throughout late August 2026. On August 21, the Department of Meteorology issued a yellow warning for extreme maximum temperatures, which remained in effect from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM. During this peak, temperatures in inland areas reached approximately 41°C, while mountain regions saw highs of around 32°C.
Following the peak of the heat, conditions remained warm as a relatively hot air mass continued to influence the region. Throughout the subsequent days, including Saturday, August 22, temperatures in inland areas remained elevated, reaching between 37°C and 39°C, while coastal temperatures averaged between 31°C and 36°C. Meteorological forecasts suggest that these temperatures will stay above seasonal climate averages through early next week.
Looking ahead, the weather is expected to remain mostly clear from Sunday, August 23, through Tuesday, August 25. Meteorologists note that while daytime temperatures will not see significant changes, residents should expect low cloud cover or isolated fog during the early morning hours, particularly in the interior and southeastern parts of the island.
