Egyptian national dies in drowning incident at Lady’s Mile
On August 15, a 27-year-old Egyptian national died while participating in an organized boat trip off the coast of Lady’s Mile, an area under the jurisdiction of the British Sovereign Base Areas in Cyprus. According to eyewitness accounts and reports confirmed by authorities, the incident occurred after the man dived into the sea to retrieve his mobile phone, which had fallen overboard from the catamaran carrying approximately 15 passengers.
Witnesses noted that the man was found floating unconscious shortly after entering the water. Despite attempts by those on board to provide first aid, he could not be revived. A second individual of Jordanian origin was also endangered during the incident but successfully recovered after receiving assistance. Following a post-mortem examination conducted on Monday, authorities confirmed that the cause of death was drowning. The Sovereign Base Areas police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the tragedy, which includes collecting statements from the boat’s owner and the passengers, while toxicology tests are pending to assist in the final report.
