4th Cyprus Choreography Showcase features new works at Rialto Theatre
The 4th Cyprus Choreography Showcase is currently taking place at the Rialto Theatre in Limassol, featuring new contemporary dance productions that explore critical social and psychological themes. Among the highlighted works is "NO IM NOT" by choreographer Panos Malaktos, which examines mental health, the abuse of power, and systemic pressures within the dance industry. Drawing from his own professional experience with verbal abuse and toxic hierarchical behavior, Malaktos aims to spark a necessary dialogue about normalizing exploitation in artistic spaces.
Simultaneously, choreographer Evi Demetriou presents her piece "Say Yes! again and again." This work focuses on themes of gender identity, social stereotypes, and the concept of "pleasure activism." Demetriou explores the necessity of personal autonomy and self-affirmation as a form of social resistance, encouraging individuals to reclaim their desires and authenticity within the collective social structure. The showcase serves as a platform for these artists to challenge established conventions and reflect on the evolving state of the contemporary dance scene in Cyprus.
