Cypriot students win two bronze medals at the 22nd International Geography Olympiad

The Cypriot student team successfully concluded its participation in the 22nd International Geography Olympiad (iGeo 2026), held in Istanbul, bringing home two bronze medals. The national delegation competed against representatives from 50 countries in a series of rigorous assessments that required extensive geographic knowledge, critical thinking, and technical skills.

The medals were awarded to Marina Malli and Thanos Hatzikyriakou, both of whom performed exceptionally well during the demanding testing phases. The delegation also included Melina Kyriaki Bekas and Antonis Hatzipanagis, led by instructors Andreas Aristides and Aliki Dimosthenous. The Cyprus Geography Association praised the students for their hard work, consistency, and dedication throughout the preparation process, which involved extensive study of books and online resources.

This achievement highlights the high standards of the Cypriot mission at the global event. Following their return, the students expressed satisfaction with their results and noted that the experience has influenced their future academic interests, with some participants considering pursuing geography-related studies at the university level.
