Portuguese tourist stabbed to death in Albania

A 20-year-old Portuguese tourist, identified as Miguel Mendes, was fatally stabbed in Ksamil, Albania, early Tuesday morning. The incident occurred at the Principote bar after a dispute reportedly broke out following the harassment of a woman. Mendes attempted to intervene in the altercation before he was attacked and killed.

The suspect, 29-year-old Sokrat Vata from Has, fled the scene but was apprehended by Albanian police hours later. A specialized police unit intercepted a vehicle in Levan, Fier, during a search for the suspect. Vata was found hiding inside the trunk of a car driven by a woman, accompanied by a Turkish national. Authorities have released footage of the operation following the arrest.

The case is currently under active investigation as police seek to clarify the exact circumstances surrounding the homicide. The tragic death has drawn attention to the risks associated with de-escalating violent confrontations in tourist areas.
