Political dispute over allegations at the Cyprus Youth Organization

A political conflict has intensified between NEDISY and AKEL/EDON regarding the Cyprus Youth Organization (ONEK). The dispute was triggered by public allegations made by former board member Sotos Vasileiou, who resigned and cited issues regarding funding, potential conflicts of interest, and the non-implementation of board decisions. Additionally, the allegations involve questions over the academic credentials of the organization’s president.

NEDISY has accused AKEL of a "deafening silence" in response to these claims, arguing that the party typically demands accountability and resignations in such cases. NEDISY further alleges that EDON was aware of problems within ONEK months ago, citing an EDON statement from February 2026 that had previously described the situation as a "procedural deviation.

While the accusations have sparked significant political friction, no independent institutional body has yet confirmed the claims as factual. The current focus remains on upcoming auditing procedures and the need for formal responses to the specific grievances raised by Vasileiou.
