Turkish authorities arrest Furkan Foundation leader Alparslan Kuytul
On August 19, 2026, Turkish authorities conducted a large-scale police operation targeting the Furkan Foundation (Furkan Vakfı), resulting in the arrest of its founder and leader, Alparslan Kuytul, alongside his wife, Semra Kuytul, and numerous other associates. The coordinated operation spanned 49 locations across six provinces and included raids by the Counter-Terrorism Department of the Adana Police, specifically targeting Kuytul's residence in the Resatbey neighborhood of Seyhan.
Justice Minister Akin Gurlek announced that legal investigations are targeting 32 suspects in connection with a series of serious criminal offenses. As part of the ongoing judicial process, court-appointed administrators have been assigned to five companies associated with the organization. The operation saw a significant deployment of police forces, including anti-riot and special operations units, to manage security following protests by Kuytul's supporters outside his home, which resulted in brief tensions with law enforcement. The investigation into the group's activities and the potential criminal charges against the detainees remains ongoing as authorities continue their legal proceedings.
