Connor Goldson discusses recovery after second heart surgery

Apollon Limassol defender Connor Goldson has provided an update on his recovery following his second open-heart surgery. The 33-year-old athlete, who is currently undergoing individual training sessions, expects to return to full competitive action in approximately seven weeks. He explained that although he feels physically well, he is currently restricted from contact sports as his sternum is still healing.

Goldson, who previously underwent heart surgery in 2017 while playing for Brighton after a routine check-up revealed an enlarged aortic root, shared details of his recent experience in the intensive care unit. He spent 24 hours in the ICU and another 24 hours in high-dependency care before being moved to a standard hospital ward. The defender noted that the condition had remained stable for nine years, but the recent health event necessitated immediate intervention.

The player expressed optimism about his progress and his return to the pitch, noting that he is capable of running and participating in individual training under the guidance of a fitness coach. He continues to focus on his rehabilitation program to ensure a safe return to the sport.
