Cyprus implements increases in disability benefits
On August 19, 2026, the Department for Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Cyprus announced the implementation of new disability benefits and retroactive increases. As part of the Law on Social Participation, Inclusion and Independent Living, beneficiaries will receive automated payments on August 27, 2026, covering a 10% increase retroactive to January 1, 2026.
The initiative involves lump-sum payments ranging from €37.60 to €770, depending on the specific monthly adjustment, which covers a period of seven months. Additionally, 629 tetraplegic individuals over the age of 65 who were previously ineligible will now receive a mobility allowance of €200. These changes are part of a broader structural reform incorporating existing benefits into a new Personal Assistance and Home Care scheme.
This policy follows a Cabinet decision dated July 2, 2026, aimed at improving independent living for persons with disabilities. No action or application is required from beneficiaries, as the system updates are processed automatically through the Department’s database to ensure all eligible citizens receive their funds without administrative burden.
