Nicosia Mayor to propose commercial center revitalization plan in September

Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Prountzos announced that he will submit a formal plan for the revitalization of the city's commercial center in September. The Mayor emphasized that the administration is focused on implementing the Municipal Council's objectives while ensuring that taxpayers are protected from potential financial liabilities regarding project funding reimbursements.

In response to demands from the Joint Platform of Struggle for the Revitalization of the Urban Commercial Core, which advocates for the reopening of Makariou Avenue to two-way traffic, Mayor Prountzos stated that this is a recurring discussion. He clarified that the existing traffic regulations on Makariou Avenue were established by the previous Municipal Council in alignment with the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP). The Mayor noted that he had already submitted a proposal for modifications to the Municipal Council upon taking office, and the current administrative efforts remain centered on balancing urban planning requirements with commercial needs.
