Eleftherios Petrounias to compete in the European rings final in Zagreb

Greek gymnast Eleftherios Petrounias has qualified for the rings final at the 2026 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships currently held in Zagreb. During the qualifying round, the 35-year-old athlete secured a score of 14.400 points, consisting of a 5.6 difficulty rating and an 8.800 execution score. Despite a minor error during his dismount, he finished in second place, trailing behind Russia's Ilia Zaika, who leads the standings with 14.466 points.

The final event is scheduled for Friday, August 21, at 19:00 at the Arena Zagreb. Petrounias, who is aiming for his ninth European gold medal in the rings category, holds a distinguished record in the sport. Having debuted on the European podium in 2011, he has collected ten total European medals throughout his career. This upcoming performance offers the Olympian a chance to further extend his legacy in gymnastics, as he remains a primary contender for the title.
