Australia condemns Israel's decision to close investigation into World Central Kitchen worker's death

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong has expressed strong disapproval following the Israeli authorities' decision not to launch a criminal investigation into the death of Zomi Frankcom and six other World Central Kitchen (WCK) aid workers in the Gaza Strip. The announcement was delivered to the Australian government shortly before it was made public on World Humanitarian Day, a timing Wong described as highly offensive to the victim's family and humanitarian workers.

In response to the development, Minister Wong summoned Israeli Ambassador Hillel Newman to Canberra and instructed the Australian Ambassador to Israel to lodge a formal protest. Canberra is currently evaluating further diplomatic actions, maintaining that the decision fails to ensure proper accountability. The Australian government insists that the victim's family deserves justice, characterizing the lack of criminal proceedings as insufficient given the circumstances of the aid workers' deaths in the conflict zone.
