Measles outbreak linked to Urkult music festival in Sweden

The Swedish Public Health Agency reported 21 confirmed cases of measles linked to the Urkult traditional music festival, which took place in northern Sweden between late July and early August. The identified cases are spread across various regions, but all trace back to exposure during the event. Authorities noted that most of those infected are under 18 years of age and were largely unvaccinated.

While measles outbreaks are considered rare in Sweden, the country typically maintains a high vaccination coverage of approximately 95% under the national childhood immunization program. Health officials are currently conducting contact tracing to identify individuals who may have been exposed to the virus in an effort to contain further transmission and prevent a wider public health crisis.
