Drug trafficking crackdowns lead to multiple arrests in Larnaca and Limassol
Cypriot police conducted two separate, major drug enforcement operations this week, resulting in seven arrests and significant seizures. In Larnaca on August 20, the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) arrested three men aged 23, 31, and 32 after seizing nearly a kilogram of cannabis, over €13,000 in cash, and pyrotechnic devices. The operation involved a violent incident where a 31-year-old suspect attempted to flee in a vehicle, colliding with three police cars and injuring an officer. The Larnaca District Court has remanded all three suspects for eight days.
Simultaneously, a separate operation in Limassol on August 21 led to the arrest of four individuals, including a 20-year-old woman, two brothers aged 23 and 32, and the woman's 38-year-old mother. Authorities seized over 650 grams of cannabis, quantities of cannabis resin, an air pistol, and over €2,700 in cash. While the 20-year-old and the two brothers face drug trafficking charges, the 38-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the possession of the air pistol. The Limassol District Court has ordered seven days of detention for the suspects involved in the drug trafficking investigation.
