Wildfires reported in Corfu and Thesprotia

On August 18, 2026, a wildfire broke out in the Temploni region of Corfu, prompting authorities to issue an emergency alert via the 112 system. Firefighting efforts involved 20 personnel, a special hiking unit from the 15th EMODE, five vehicles, five aircraft, and two helicopters to contain the blaze in the agricultural and forest area.

Separately, on August 20, 2026, a new fire alarm was raised regarding a forest fire in the Palamba region of Thesprotia, which began at approximately 5:00 AM. Due to the fire's location on a mountainous ridge, ground access has proven difficult. Currently, 25 firefighters with three vehicles, two hiking units from the 5th EMODE, one aircraft, and one helicopter are engaged in suppression operations. Authorities remain on high alert in both regions as efforts to extinguish the flames continue.
