Recent fire incidents across Limassol and Nicosia districts

Between August 20 and 21, 2026, several fire incidents were reported across Cyprus. On the evening of August 20, at 8:41 pm, a vehicle parked at a residence in Moni, Limassol, caught fire, causing extensive damage to the car and the exterior door of the nearby house. Firefighters from the Agios Nikolaos station brought the blaze under control by 9:09 pm. Separately, in the Farmakas area of Nicosia, a fire broke out on an excavator at a quarry shortly after 7:00 pm on August 20. Quarry workers managed to contain the fire, which caused damage limited to the front of the machine, with police and fire services investigating the cause.

In a third incident occurring early on August 21, a clothing store located on the ground floor of an apartment building in the Agios Nikolaos area of Limassol was severely damaged by fire. Authorities were alerted shortly after 3:00 am. Following preliminary investigations, police have classified the clothing store fire as a case of arson. The scene was cordoned off for forensic examination by the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Fire Service to determine the exact circumstances and identify potential perpetrators.
