Series of fire incidents reported across Cyprus over the weekend
Between August 21 and August 23, 2026, Cyprus experienced multiple fire incidents, including forest fires and vehicle-related blazes. On August 21, a wildfire broke out near the villages of Agios Nikolaos and Tripimeni in the occupied areas, while a vehicle was destroyed by fire on the Avgorou-Frenaros road. On August 22, a forest fire in the Statos-Agios Fotios community in Paphos scorched approximately three hectares of wild vegetation and trees. The Paphos fire required an extensive response from the Forestry Department, the Fire Service, Civil Defence, the Game and Fauna Service, and volunteers from the Atlas and Blue Heart groups, supported by six aerial units. Authorities successfully contained the blaze, preventing its spread to residential zones.
In Larnaca, a 39-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle near the Hala Sultan Tekke area on August 22, causing the car to crash into a tree and ignite. The driver was transported to a hospital with minor injuries, and police investigations are ongoing. Additionally, on August 23, police in Limassol reported an act of arson involving two vehicles parked outside a 49-year-old woman's home. The Limassol Criminal Investigation Department is actively investigating this malicious attack, while fire safety remains a heightened priority across the island.
