Arson attack confirmed in Agia Marinouda vehicle fire
On August 20, 2026, a vehicle fire broke out at approximately 14:05 in the parking area of an apartment complex in the village of Agia Marinouda, Paphos district. The Cyprus Fire Service responded with two fire engines, successfully bringing the blaze under control by 14:45.
The incident resulted in extensive damage to the primary vehicle and heat-related damage to two adjacent parked cars. Additionally, the fire destroyed air conditioning compressors and scorched the exterior wall paint of the apartment building. Following a joint investigation by the Fire Service and the Police, authorities officially concluded that the fire was a result of arson.
The Fire Service reported that this incident was part of a series of fires occurring across various districts over the past 24 hours, including a fire at a shed in Athienou and other incidents involving a hotel and an electric scooter. Authorities are continuing investigations into the causes of the other reported fires, while the arson case in Agia Marinouda remains under official police scrutiny.
