Recent fire incidents in Cyprus involve vehicle arson and hotel emergencies
Cyprus emergency services responded to multiple fire incidents between August 20 and 21, 2026. On August 20 at 14:05, a fire occurred in a parking lot in Ayia Marinouda, Paphos, resulting in extensive damage to three vehicles and an apartment building. Authorities confirmed this incident was a case of arson. Earlier that morning, at 00:18, firefighters also addressed a fire involving an uninterruptible power supply system in the basement of a hotel in Peyia, Paphos, which was extinguished without injury or the need for guest evacuation.
Separately, on the night of August 20, a fire broke out in the laundry room of a hotel in Protaras at 22:21. Two fire engines from the Famagusta station brought the blaze under control by 23:40. The incident caused damage to equipment and linens, and necessitated a precautionary evacuation of the hotel. A subsequent search of all rooms confirmed no one was trapped or injured. Investigations into the causes of these incidents, excluding the confirmed arson case in Ayia Marinouda, are ongoing in cooperation with the relevant authorities.
