Cyprus sends its largest delegation to the 20th Mediterranean Games in Taranto

Cyprus is participating in the 20th Mediterranean Games, held in Taranto, Italy, from August 21 to September 3, 2026. This marks the island's 12th appearance at the multi-sport event, featuring a historic record delegation of 145 athletes competing across 24 sports. The country is debuting in handball, equestrian, padel, and fin swimming, while veteran sports like judo continue their streak of participation dating back to 1983.

The competitive action begins on August 21 with canoe-kayak events at the SWAM military facility, followed by various track and field events starting on August 30. Other disciplines, including skeet and trap shooting, are scheduled throughout the final weeks of August. The Cyprus Olympic Committee, which oversees the mission, emphasizes the growth of its sporting presence, noting that historical participation has reached 793 athletes since 1983, with track and field maintaining the highest frequency of athlete representation.
