Digital identity for minors added to Cyprus Citizens app

As of August 20, 2026, parents in Cyprus can access and display digital copies of their minor children's identification cards through the 'Psifiakos Politis' (Digital Citizen) application. The Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy announced that both mothers and fathers may add their children's valid physical ID cards to their own digital wallets, allowing for immediate use during identity verification processes.

To utilize this feature, the child must already possess a valid, issued physical identity card. The Ministry clarified that these digital copies are fully legally equivalent to physical documents and must be accepted without exception during identification checks. Furthermore, this update does not restrict individuals aged 14 and older from continuing to maintain their own digital identity on their personal mobile devices.

This initiative is part of a broader government push to digitize public services, aiming to provide parents with secure and convenient access to essential documentation. The system ensures that legal identification for minors is easily accessible, reducing the reliance on carrying physical documents while maintaining strict security standards for all citizens.
