Digital identity for minors added to the Psifiakos Politis application
On August 20, 2026, the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy announced that parents can now add digital copies of their minor children's identity cards to the "Psifiakos Politis" (Digital Citizen) application. The service is available through the latest app update on Google Play and the Apple App Store.
To utilize this feature, the child must already possess a valid physical identity card. Both mothers and fathers are authorized to store these digital copies on their mobile devices, ensuring accessibility for identification checks. The ministry emphasized that these digital copies are legally equivalent to physical documents and will be accepted for official verification purposes.
This update does not alter existing regulations for citizens aged 14 and older, who retain the right to manage their own digital identities via their personal mobile devices. The initiative is part of a broader government strategy to accelerate the digitization of public services, aiming to provide parents with secure and immediate access to necessary official documentation while simplifying daily administrative processes.
