Emmanouil Karalis sets new personal best in pole vault at Lausanne Diamond League

Greek pole vaulter Emmanouil Karalis achieved a new outdoor personal record of 6.16 meters at the Diamond League meeting in Lausanne on Thursday, August 20, 2026. Despite this significant milestone, which solidifies his status as one of the world's elite athletes, Karalis finished in second place behind Swedish superstar Mondo Duplantis.

Duplantis secured the victory by clearing 6.21 meters, setting a new meeting record, while Karalis was unable to clear the subsequent heights of 6.21 and 6.26 meters. The competition saw both athletes successfully clear the 6.16-meter mark, with Duplantis doing so on his first attempt and Karalis on his second. This achievement follows Karalis’s recent silver medal performance at the European Championships in Birmingham. While the Greek athlete's absolute personal best remains the 6.17 meters he cleared at the Greek Indoor Championships in Paiania in February 2026, his latest outdoor effort marks a major progression from his previous 6.08-meter record.
