Cyprus government publishes details of 2025 party funding
The Treasury of the Republic of Cyprus has published detailed data regarding state payments exceeding €5,000 made in 2025. This move aims to ensure transparency and public accountability, covering payments to natural and legal persons, excluding sensitive categories such as defense and public debt servicing. The data reveals that political parties received a total of €11,387,906 from the state throughout the year.
Of this total, €6.5 million was distributed as state grants, with 15% divided equally among parliamentary parties and 85% allocated proportionally based on results from the 2021 parliamentary elections. Major funding recipients included DISY (€1,980,176), AKEL (€1,620,844), DIKO (€889,607), ELAM (€591,156), EDEK (€587,186), DIPA (€546,157), and the Ecologists (€434,321). Additionally, the state provided €4,290,085 to cover the salaries of 101 parliamentary assistants, while the remainder of the funds supported youth organizations, contributions to European political parties, and public awareness campaigns.
Parties are legally required to submit audited accounts of their state funding to the Speaker of the House within 10 months following the end of the fiscal year to ensure proper management of public resources.
