On the night of August 20-21, 2026, the Cyprus Police carried out organized nationwide patrols and security operations in key urban areas. These actions aimed to prevent criminal activity and enhance public order, resulting in the arrest of four individuals for offenses including drug possession, illegal residence in the Republic, and outstanding fines. Authorities inspected 464 vehicles and checked 633 individuals, while also auditing 41 establishments, which led to four formal reports.
Traffic enforcement was a major component of the operation, yielding 227 reports for various violations, with 13 additional cases under investigation and 10 vehicles impounded. Among the traffic infractions, 62 reports were issued for speeding. Additionally, officers identified two drivers under the influence of alcohol and one under the influence of drugs. Building on these efforts, the police announced further intensified traffic controls scheduled for the weekend of August 22-23, 2026. These upcoming operations will focus specifically on the use of seat belts and child safety seats to prevent fatal accidents. Official data shows that between January 1 and June 30, 2026, there were 4,075 reports for failure to wear seat belts and 178 for improper child seating.
