Charter plane crash in western Alaska kills eight
A charter aircraft carrying eight people crashed on Thursday near a remote long-range radar station at Cape Newenham in western Alaska. The flight, identified by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a Cessna 441 operated by the Anchorage-based company Security Aviation, departed from Anchorage International Airport. According to the U.S. military command in Alaska, all eight individuals on board—comprising two pilots and six passengers—perished in the incident, which occurred at approximately 12:15 p.m. local time.
While initial reports from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) stated that the status of those on board was unknown, the U.S. military later confirmed that there were no survivors. The aircraft was operating near a facility that serves as part of the surveillance network for Alaska's airspace. Search and rescue operations were initiated immediately following the crash. Investigations into the causes of the incident are expected to follow, though authorities have noted that current information remains preliminary.
