Police in Paphos investigate father for child neglect
Authorities in Paphos, Cyprus, were alerted late on August 20, 2026, to a case involving an 11-year-old girl left unattended at home. Upon arrival, police officers confirmed the child was alone and had been without adult supervision for two days. The girl reported to the officers that her father had traveled abroad, with subsequent reports indicating he had flown to Albania to attend a football match featuring Pafos FC.
Following the discovery, the Social Welfare Services were immediately contacted and assumed responsibility for the protection and care of the child. The minor was subsequently placed in the care of a family friend, according to some reports. The police have launched an investigation into the father regarding potential charges of child mistreatment or neglect. While some outlets suggested the father might face detention upon his return through Paphos airport, law enforcement officials have not yet issued an arrest warrant, stating that investigations into the circumstances are ongoing to determine legal responsibilities.
