Police investigation launched after 11-year-old child left alone in Paphos

Authorities in Paphos, Cyprus, launched an investigation on August 21, 2026, after receiving reports that an 11-year-old girl was living alone in her home without parental supervision. Police officers arrived at the residence late at night and confirmed the child was unaccompanied. According to police reports, the minor stated that her father had traveled abroad for two days to attend a football match.

While OmegaLive and Sigma Live News report that the father allegedly traveled to Albania to watch a Paphos FC match, law enforcement has not officially confirmed this specific destination. Following the discovery, the Social Welfare Services were immediately notified and have since assumed responsibility for the protection and care of the child. The minor was subsequently placed in the care of a family friend.
