British bases police report 26 arrests in western Cyprus

The British Sovereign Base Areas (SBA) Police in western Cyprus announced 26 arrests conducted over the past week as part of enhanced law enforcement activities. Among these, three individuals were detained on August 16 following a vehicle search where officers discovered drug-related paraphernalia. The driver tested positive for crystal methamphetamine, while the two passengers were arrested for illegal residency status on the island.

In a separate enforcement action, a woman was remanded in custody by court order following her arrest for possession of illegal substances with the intent to supply. Beyond these arrests, the SBA police issued 30 fixed penalty notices and 47 written warnings, while conducting 30 alcohol and three drug roadside tests.

The maritime sector also saw significant activity, with the Marine Police Unit conducting 25 patrols. These operations included checks on 46 vessels and 158 individuals to ensure compliance within the jurisdictional waters of the British bases. The police authorities continue to maintain a visible presence to address issues of illegal residence, drug offenses, and public safety across the western territory.
