Apollon Limassol shifts focus to league opener after European exit
Following their elimination from European competition by Brann, Apollon Limassol has turned its focus toward the upcoming domestic season. Coach Hernan Losada is using the final preparation period, including a friendly match against Nea Salamina on August 22, to test new squad configurations and player fitness ahead of the league opener against Aris Limassol on August 29.
The team faces significant personnel challenges for the first two matches of the season, as players Brandon Thomas and Weisbeck are suspended. Additionally, coach Losada must manage several injury concerns; players such as Josef Kvinda, Garry Rodrigues, and Peter Leeuwenburgh were ruled out of the latest friendly due to physical issues. Furthermore, Morgan Brown is absent due to the birth of his child, and Clinton Duodu is excluded amid ongoing transfer negotiations.
Despite the early European exit, the club maintains high ambitions, targeting both the league title and the Cup for the 2026 season. The coaching staff is using this time to integrate newer arrivals and refine team chemistry, ensuring the squad is adequately prepared to compete for domestic honors.
