Poland summons Israeli ambassador over closure of Gaza airstrike probe

Poland’s foreign ministry has officially summoned the Israeli ambassador in Warsaw to express profound disappointment following Israel's decision not to pursue criminal charges regarding a 2024 airstrike in Gaza. The April 2024 attack targeted a convoy belonging to the World Central Kitchen charity, resulting in the deaths of seven humanitarian workers, including Polish citizen Damian Sobol from Przemysl. The Israeli notification regarding the discontinuation of proceedings was formally received by the Polish authorities on August 19, 2026.

In response, the Polish government has communicated its critical assessment of Israel's internal investigation process. Warsaw maintains that the efforts to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy have been insufficient. Consequently, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Przemysl continues to conduct a parallel national investigation into the incident. Polish officials have officially demanded that the Israeli side provide all necessary documentation and explanations to the relevant Polish authorities to ensure the legal process is adequately addressed.
