Cypriot travel expected to reach record 2.1 million in 2026

The Association of Cyprus Travel and Tourism Agents (ACTTA) projects that outbound travel by Cyprus residents will hit a historic high of 2.1 million in 2026. According to ACTTA President Charis Papacharalambous, this represents a 7% increase compared to the 1.96 million trips recorded in 2025, averaging approximately 2.2 trips per permanent resident per year.

Industry experts attribute this trend to the shifting perception of travel, which is now increasingly viewed as a necessity rather than a luxury. Enhanced flight connectivity to the island has further supported this growth by expanding both the number of available destinations and flight frequencies. While Greece remains the primary choice for travelers from the island with a 33% share, Japan has also gained significant popularity as a long-haul destination in recent years.
