Larnaca ranked third-best autumn travel destination in southern Europe

Larnaca has been named the third-best destination in southern Europe for an autumn shoulder-season getaway in the 2026 Shoulder Season Index by UK travel insurance company Quotezone. The Cypriot town secured its spot behind Antalya, Turkey, and Tenerife in the Canary Islands, outperforming other popular Mediterranean locations like Crete and Malta. The assessment was based on specific criteria, including sunshine levels, average temperatures, rainfall, and overall accommodation costs.

According to the data, visitors to Larnaca can expect average air temperatures of 25.5 degrees Celsius, sea temperatures of 27 degrees Celsius, and minimal rainfall of approximately 12 millimetres during the autumn months. The report also highlights Nissi Beach as one of the top beaches in Europe. This ranking emerges as travellers increasingly shift their vacation periods away from peak summer months due to concerns over extreme heat and rising costs, a trend dubbed “Super September” by the travel trade association ABTA. Research suggests that 48 per cent of travellers are considering autumn holidays, while 52 per cent actively avoid southern Europe during the peak summer season to escape high temperatures.
