Larnaca EOA announces tender for flood protection studies

The Larnaca district local government organisation (EOA) has announced a €300,000 tender, designated as EOAL 15/2026, aimed at designing modern flood protection infrastructure. The project focuses on residential zones within the Larnaca and Aradippou municipalities that fall within the Kalo Chorio river basin. The contract includes the design of flood defenses and the preparation of all necessary technical and environmental documentation required for future construction tenders.

The initiative is designed to prevent flooding in regions that have historically been vulnerable, particularly areas near the Kamares aqueduct. The study, which is funded by government resources, is expected to take 12 months to complete once the contract is signed. This project represents a strategic effort by the local authorities to implement a cohesive drainage system and establish modern infrastructure to mitigate the risks associated with heavy rainfall in the district.

Upon the completion of this 12-month study, the EOA intends to use the resulting plans to proceed with the actual construction of the flood defense works. This move follows previous experiences with severe weather, which highlighted the urgent need for enhanced water management systems in the region.
