Widespread vandalism and thefts reported across Paphos
On the night of August 21 to August 22, 2026, a series of coordinated attacks and burglaries occurred across the Paphos district in Cyprus, affecting at least seven to nine businesses including pharmacies, a cafe, a gas station, and a fruit shop. The perpetrators, described as hooded youths on motorcycles, shattered glass storefronts and stole various items, including cosmetics and a cash register containing approximately 500 euros from a pharmacy in Kato Paphos. The cost of property damage is estimated to be significantly higher than the value of the stolen goods, with one door repair alone estimated at 3,500 euros.
Authorities suspect the violence was a retaliatory act following a police operation in the Mouttalos neighborhood intended to curb youth delinquency. The police have cordoned off several scenes and are analyzing security camera footage from multiple locations, including Tala, Chloraka, Pegeia, and Kato Paphos. One abandoned motorcycle, believed to be linked to the suspects, has been recovered. The Paphos Police Department has launched a comprehensive investigation to identify the individuals involved and clarify the motives behind these coordinated destruction efforts.
