Fatal car accident in Kato Achaia

On the afternoon of Friday, August 21, 2026, a fatal road accident occurred on the old Patras-Pyrgos national road near Kato Achaia. A collision between two vehicles resulted in the death of a 46-year-old woman identified as Eleni, who became trapped in her car after it veered off the road, struck protective railings, and subsequently caught fire. While early reports incorrectly suggested the victim was 25 years old, authorities later confirmed her identity and age.

The second vehicle involved also sustained significant damage, leaving its driver severely injured. The driver was transported to the University Hospital of Rio for emergency care. Sixteen firefighters operating four vehicles were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the fire and assist with the recovery effort.
