Cyprus and Greece consolidate intergovernmental cooperation mechanism

The Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus has highlighted the outcomes of the intergovernmental cooperation initiative with Greece, which was formally established in November 2023. Over the past three years, the two nations have held three high-level meetings to refine their strategic partnership and foster regional stability.

This cooperation has led to the creation of a permanent coordination mechanism between the two governments. Key benefits identified by the Cypriot Presidency include improved policy implementation and technical cooperation in critical sectors such as healthcare, pharmaceutical supply, transplant procedures, energy, and civil protection. The framework allows Cyprus to leverage Greek expertise and infrastructure, aiming to enhance the efficiency of state services and overall national capability.

This initiative marks a shift toward a more systematic and institutionalized bilateral relationship. By moving beyond ad-hoc discussions to a stable coordination structure, the two nations aim to address regional challenges collectively and ensure long-term stability. The Presidency emphasized that the ongoing cooperation will continue to focus on tangible results for citizens through improved cross-border ministerial communication.
