Cyprus records significant decline in fuel prices in July 2026
In July 2026, Cyprus experienced a notable shift in fuel market dynamics, characterized by a sharp monthly decline in prices, contrasting with broader trends observed across the European Union. According to Eurostat data, diesel prices in Cyprus fell by 7.9%, while petrol prices dropped by 5.4% compared to June. These figures represent some of the most significant monthly decreases within the EU, with Cyprus leading the bloc in the reduction of diesel costs, surpassing Sweden and Ireland.
Despite this sharp monthly drop, the annual growth rate for fuels and lubricants for personal transport in Cyprus slowed to 9.9% year-on-year in July, a significant decrease from the 18.6% rise recorded in June and 20.5% in May. While prices remain higher than those observed a year ago, this annual increase is considered moderate compared to many other EU member states. Across the EU, fuel prices rose by 16.9% on an annual basis in July, with countries like Romania, Germany, and Lithuania facing increases exceeding 22%. By July, the EU average showed a monthly rise in fuel costs, whereas Cyprus moved in the opposite direction, distinguishing itself from the wider European trajectory where diesel and petrol prices rose by 4.3% and 4.7% respectively.
