Germany unveils 12 billion euro long-range missile program

Germany is launching a 12 billion euro initiative to develop a new long-range missile arsenal aimed at enhancing its defensive deterrence against Russia. According to internal Ministry of Defense documents cited by Politico, this project is considered a top priority for both Berlin and NATO as European nations accelerate rearmament efforts in response to the perceived regional threat.

The strategic plan is structured around four pillars designed to provide the German armed forces with the capability to strike military targets, including command centers, airfields, missile launchers, and supply hubs, located hundreds or even thousands of kilometers behind the front lines. The initiative is specifically intended to establish a robust conventional long-range strike capacity that remains "below the nuclear threshold.

Officials aim for the first of these new weapon systems to enter service as early as 2027, with more advanced iterations expected to follow thereafter. This development marks a significant shift in German military strategy, prioritizing the ability to reach deep into enemy territory to neutralize critical infrastructure and logistics.
