Lithuanian real estate agent to be extradited to Cyprus for property usurpation

A 53-year-old Lithuanian real estate agent, arrested at Nice Airport on May 16, 2026, is set to be extradited to the Republic of Cyprus. The suspect was apprehended under a European arrest warrant issued by Cypriot authorities regarding allegations of illegal usurpation and the sale of Greek-Cypriot properties located in the island's occupied northern territories.

The Lithuanian national had appealed the execution of the European arrest warrant in early July, but a French court recently rejected her request. While previous cases, such as that of Iranian national Behdad Jafari, raised questions regarding the applicability of warrants due to the suspension of the EU acquis in the north, the French court ruled that it could proceed with the extradition in this instance. The suspect will now be handed over to Cypriot authorities to face trial, with officials confirming that the transfer will occur once remaining formal procedures are concluded.
