Heavy rains cause injuries and evacuations in northeastern Spain

Heavy rainfall caused significant disruption and injuries in northeastern Spain during the night from Friday to Saturday, August 22, 2026. Emergency services responded to approximately 200 incidents, primarily involving the rescue of motorists trapped in flooded streets. Authorities reported that seven people were injured across multiple incidents in the Roda de Bera region, located about 75 kilometers southwest of Barcelona.

Three individuals were injured following the collapse of a wall at the port of Roda de Bera, with one person reported to be in potentially serious condition according to regional emergency coordinator Inma Sole. Additionally, two more people sustained minor injuries when another wall collapsed at a local campsite. Consequently, approximately 300 campers were evacuated, with 100 of them seeking shelter in a municipal gymnasium. Local firefighters were heavily involved in search and rescue efforts throughout the night to manage the impact of the severe weather.
