APOEL reaches agreement for signing goalkeeper Oliver Zelenika

APOEL is finalizing the acquisition of 33-year-old Croatian goalkeeper Oliver Zelenika after reaching a full agreement with both the player and his current club, NK Varaždin. Zelenika, who has played for Varaždin since 2020 and recorded over 150 appearances, is expected to arrive in Cyprus shortly to complete the move. The transfer, orchestrated by sporting director Zisis Vryzas, aims to bolster the team's defensive options and provide backup to Vid Belec, following the departure of Gabriel Pereira.

Despite reports suggesting a potential diversion to AEK Larnaca due to alleged transfer complications, APOEL officials have denied any concerns, clarifying that the minor delay was tied to an administrative embargo which has since been addressed. Meanwhile, AEK Larnaca continues its own search for a new goalkeeper to replace Vedad Muftic. While Romanian media recently linked AEK with 27-year-old Andrei Vlad, club sources indicated that Vlad is not the primary target for sporting director Xavi Roca.

Zelenika’s career path includes extensive experience in Croatian football, having developed at Dinamo Zagreb and played for Rudeš and Lokomotiva Zagreb. His ability to maintain concentration during periods of low activity and his proficiency in starting play from the back were highlighted as key attributes that influenced APOEL's decision to pursue him.
