APOEL reaches agreement to sign goalkeeper Oliver Zelenika
APOEL Nicosia has finalized an agreement to sign 33-year-old Croatian goalkeeper Oliver Zelenika, who has played for Varaždin since 2020. The 1.92-meter tall keeper, known for his consistency and ability to contribute to playmaking from the back, is expected to arrive in Cyprus shortly to complete the transfer. The move aims to strengthen the team's defensive depth, with Zelenika set to join the squad under coach Nikos Papadopoulos to support Vid Belec.
While reports initially surfaced suggesting the transfer might be stalled due to a registration embargo and rumored interest from AEK Larnaca, official sources within APOEL have dismissed these concerns. The club confirmed that the issues regarding the transfer were tied to administrative hurdles that are currently being resolved. With the payment of pending obligations, the path is now clear for Zelenika to join the roster. Meanwhile, AEK Larnaca has redirected its scouting efforts toward 27-year-old Romanian goalkeeper Andrei Vlad, following the reports of their search for a new shot-stopper.
