ELAM demands cancellation of international events in occupied Nicosia
The political party ELAM has formally demanded the cancellation of two upcoming international events scheduled for the Turkish-occupied areas of Nicosia. These include the 'Zamna' music festival, slated for October 10, 2026, and an official football training camp organized by the FC Barcelona Academy, known as the 'Lefkosa Camp,' which is set to take place in two sessions between September 7-11 and 16-20, 2026. The academy's official website confirms the scheduling of these sessions in the occupied territory.
ELAM, which recently claimed credit for the cancellation of the 'NEXUS' festival in Kyrenia, has urged the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs to intervene diplomatically to stop both events. Furthermore, the party has called upon the Spanish government to prevent the FC Barcelona Academy from holding sporting activities in the occupied area, describing such events as a 'shame' and 'unthinkable' for an entity based in a European Union member state. The party emphasizes that these activities take place in territory resulting from the 1974 Turkish invasion and continued occupation, which is not recognized as a sovereign state by the Republic of Cyprus.
